“RETHINKING EDUCATION”: CIVIL SOCIETY HEARD BY EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT



On 22 October in European Parliament plenary sitting in Strasbourg was voted MEP Katarina Nevedalova’s (S&D) report on the 2012 Commission’s Communication on “Rethinking Education: investing in skills for better socio-economic outcomes”. EUCIS-LLL welcomes the strong will of Members of Parliament to express their opinion on such an important political document and congratulates the Committee on Culture and Education for having listened to civil society concerns.

Eurostat recently published the Regional yearbook 2013 and recently launched a new interactive tool, Regional Statistics Illustrated, to visualise regional data.

Flash Eurobarometer 366 QUALITY OF LIFE IN EUROPEAN CITIES REPORT



For this survey, 41.000 people have been interviewed in 78 cities and 4 urban agglomerations. Via a range of questions, citizens were asked to express their views on the various dimensions of urban life. How do they assess the quality of services such as public transport, health care, education, cultural and sport facilities? Do they consider migration as an asset for their city? How do they perceive job availability or affordable housing in their cities? Are people satisfied with the place they live, the life they lead, or the financial situation of their household?

OECD-INFE Policy guidance on addressing women’s and girls’ needs for financial awareness and education




Endorsed by G20 Leaders at their Summit in September 2013, this policy guidance aims to help address gender differences in financial literacy and to financially empower women and girls. The guidance is complemented by and based on an in-depth publication titled Women and Financial Education: Evidence, Policy Responses and Guidance.

OECD Skills Outlook 2013




This first OECD Skills Outlook presents the initial results of the Survey of Adult Skills (PIAAC), which evaluates the skills of adults in 24 countries. It provides insights into the availability of some of the key skills and how they are used at work and at home. A major component is the direct assessment of key information-processing skills: literacy, numeracy and problem solving in the context of technology-rich environments.
